About the shot :
The 2023 29er Worlds was overall a breezy event.
On this day the fleet was sailing in Portland harbour with a bit of a confused chop bouncing off the sea wall near the leeward gate making for some tricky leeward mark roundings and spinnaker drops.
I love the expression on both the helm and crew's faces. Although it looks like the crew is shouting; from looking at the photos I took on either side of this one I think he is more just getting his breath! Either way it's a great expression!
There's a few more clues in the photo:
- The buoy and other boat in the background suggesting that they are reaching towards the finish line
- The spinnaker draped around the jib & main suggesting that the last kite drop was a bit rushed or something went wrong
- The sparkly sea suggesting that there were some champagne conditions on that day
One of my favourites from a great year of events.
