On the last day of The Ocean Race, after the IMOCA's in-port race, the Italian Air Force instructed us to ascend the helicopter to 2350 feet in altitude so that the Frecce Tricolori could fly over the racecourse and the Amerigo Vespucci. Freezing and scary moment with the heli's door open. It was only possible to "spot the planes" once they started releasing smoke with a 500mm telephoto lens. Everything happened in seconds.
